Understanding the real effects of smoking was the missing part of my decision to quit. Like many other smokers, I have tried and failed to quit several times. Now I know that the biggest reason I found it so hard was because I wasn’t considering the effects of smoking. How it affected my day-to-day as well as how it would affect my future health. We all know that smoking is a harmful addiction but don’t honestly consider the effects of smoking compared to the benefits they get from it – and I was no different.
The cigarette smoke contains about 4,000 different chemicals; some of them are in a solid form and some of them are gasses. A large part of these chemicals, mainly the gasses, are poisonous to different parts of the body. Another part of them can directly cause cancer. So there’s a unique chemical in every puff to harm pretty much any system of your body. Physical effects of smoking cause short and long term damage to the central nervous system, the heart muscle and the blood vassals.
You should simply look at it as it is. 4,000 chemicals – Think about it… That’s one big cocktail of poisons!! This fact alone still lingers in my head when I think about having a cigarette. I’ve been a non-smoker for 8 years now yet once in a while I’ll still consider smoking one. Then I’ll be reminded of the effects of smoking. I’ll ask myself the question: “Do I REALLY want to inhale 4,000 chemicals into my body right now??” – and I answer my self “Nah” and switch my focus to something else. Doing some work, time with my family, going for a walk – anything else but smoking. If you are a smoker then this is a power you probably don’t have (yet). This is exactly why we started QuitMonkey – to teach smokers how to train themselves to have this kind of power.
My name is Joseph King, I’m 46 years old and father of two. I’ve been a chain-smoker for most of my adult life. I quit cold turkey and I am confident that I can teach anyone to do exactly the same. Today I am a very proud ex-smoker. I am very happy to have this opportunity to share my experience and to guide you in your fight to beat cigarettes. If you are not a member yet then don’t just read this and say “hmm.. He’s got a point there.” – Take action! Go out for a smoke, come back and sign up to QuitMonkey

Hi Joseph just wanna thank you and say your tips were so helpful!! I followed the program and your guides and not smoking for 3 months now, thnkx! and guys – it does get easier and easier
Joseph I’m only on day 4 of the program and so far so good. Do you think I can already go out with my smoking friends tonight?
Darren, although you’re still in the early more “dangerous” stage it does come down to attitude. If you are confident enough about your decision to quit then YES but if you still look at anyone smoking and crave for it then NO – hold out for 3 more days. When I quit I always joined my friends for drinks and everything. I did not stay behind because I don’t smoke anymore – I went out with them (when I wanted to), made conversation and had fun. You have to adopt an attitude: “They smoke and it’s their business, it’s their choice – no problem. I don’t smoke because all of the reasons I now know and understand”. It’s all good – go out right next to them and enjoy the night with them. Let them smoke as much as they want and don’t even think about any issue with it – again, it’s their business not yours. So bottom line: If you feel you already have this attitude then go out with them and enjoy otherwise wait a few more days.
